Canine Good Citizen
(CGC)
CGC is an AKC program started in 1989, it is a certifications program designed to reward both the dog and handler who demonstrate good manners at home and in the community. CGC is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. Dogs that pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel club.
Training for the CGC will enhance the bond between you and your dog and can be a stepping stone for other activities such as obedience or agility.
All dogs purebred and mixed are welcome to participate. There is no age limit but puppies must have completed all immunizations and boosters before being tested. It is also recommended that puppies be retested as an adult because temperament can change over time.
Handlers and dogs are not required to take the CGC training but those that need additional help, classes are available.
